Ergonomic design
The Black & Decker Chainsaw is ergonomically designed to ensure that it is easy to use. At just 3.1kg, this is a lightweight chainsaw, so it's easy to transport and manoeuvre. The light weight also causes fatigue during prolonged work. The battery is positioned on the side of the chainsaw in order to distribute the weight evenly, resulting in a balanced tool that is more comfortable to use.
In addition, the chainsaw's primary handle also has an over-molded rubber comfort grip, which is also a non-slip for improved security and stability. It also comes with a secondary bale handle which is clearly separated from the primary handle to make the chainsaw more comfortable to use and is positioned to allow clear visibility of the chain whilst cutting.
The tension of the chain can be quickly and easily adjusted with a tool-free dial that simply winds up to tighten the chain, saving you time and effort. The semi-automatic oil system is easy to use, simply press a button to oil the chain. The system is leak-free and there is a small window that allows you to see clearly when the oil needs to be refilled. The chainsaw can also lie flat on its side, which allows you to re-fill the oil with ease.
Lithium-Ion battery The chainsaw comes with an 18 V Lithium-Ion battery which once charged holds up to 18 months whilst idle. A full battery charge takes 5 hours; however, as lithium ion batteries have no "memory effect", they do not need to run flat before charging. You can therefore simply top up the charge before using it. The chainsaw also has a state-of-the-charge battery indicator for convenience.
Lithium Ion batteries offer 30 per cent longer runtime compared to comparable units with traditional NiCad or NiMH batteries. This means that the Black & Decker chainsaw offers an average 220 cuts per battery charge thanks to its 2.0 Ah battery.
The cordless design also gives you more freedom than traditional corded chainsaws as there is no need to worry about cutting through cables, finding extension leads or filling it up with petrol. This also means that there are no harmful emissions.
Safety
The chainsaw has a lock off safety switch whereby two switches must be pressed at the same time to start a tool that removes any chance of an accidental start. The primary handle also has an over-molded, rubber, non-slip grip which offers improved stability and security. The chainsaw is also fitted with an anti-kickback chain for added safety.
